An artistic reconstruction of the ichthyosaur Dearcmhara shawcrossi, the first extinct marine reptile named from Scotland. Dearcmhara was about 4m long and was a predator that prowled the oceans and lagoons of Middle Jurassic Scotland, approximately 170 million years ago. Its fossils were found on Skye by collector Brian Shawcross, donated to the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow, and described in this issue, Scottish Journal of Geology, 51, 00-00. Artwork by Todd Marshall.
