Paleozoic Plays of NW Europe
Cover image
The cliff face at Tynemouth Priory, NE England. The geological sequence comprises of the Carboniferous (Westphalian) Coal Measures Group of fluvial channel sandstones (at the base of the cliff), the Permian, Rotliegend Group of cross-bedded aeolian dune sandstones (middle) and the Zechstein Group (Z1 Cycle) carbonates (at the top). The boundary between the Rotliegend and Coal Measures Groups represents the Base Permian (Variscan) Unconformity. The section encapsulates the reservoir-seal components in the prospective Upper Paleozoic play found beneath offshore waters of the UK Southern North Sea.
